Feb. 26, 2013 - Washington D.C. continues hearings on education.  Last February 15th a series of witnesses spoke to the United States House of Representatives Education & The Workforce Committee on "Raising the Bar: How Education Innovation Can Improve Student Achievement".  On February 28th, 2013 the hearings continue on "Raising the Bar: How are Schools Measuring Teacher Performance?".

One of the key quotes and calls to action came from Mr. Jim Shelton, Assistant Deputy Secretary for Innovation and Improvement, US Department of Education, who stated,

To be blunt, we have reached another "Sputnik Moment", one which challenges [all leaders] to have the vision and courage to do what is necessary to retain America's educational and economic strength.

Learning technology can and will transform education in at least three core ways:

  1. First, learning technology will greatly expand access and equity;
  2. Second it will transform teaching and learning; and
  3. Third, learning technology will dramatically accelerate and enhance research and development in education
